What is a Parent Partnership?

The Parent Partnership serves as the School Accountability Committee (SAC). The participants are parents/guardians, grandparents, or other community members who have a vested interest in public school with a desire to help make positive changes that promote the community school. The committee serves in an advisory capacity to the principal on issues that might affect the entire school community.

Why do we have Parent Partnership meetings?

The primary purpose of the committee is to serve in an advisory capacity to the principal and school board on matters that affect that school site. Local school accountability committees shall provide a means for citizens to have an integral part in the decision-making process at the school that he/she serves.

Who can participate in the West Woods Parent Partnership meeting?

A participant must be an adult who is a proponent of public education and must have demonstrated continual involvement and service to his/her local school.

Local accountability committees will follow guidelines established in Jefferson County Board Policy AE-R1. These guidelines help compose accountability committees as follows:

  • Each school is responsible for establishing a School Accountability Committee and should consist of at least the following seven members:

    • The principal of the school or the principal’s designee
    • At least one teacher who provides instruction in the school
    • At least three parents of students enrolled in the school
    • At least one adult member of an organization of parents, teachers, and students recognized by the school (PTSA)
    • At least one person from the community
  •  Accountability Committees must select one of their parent representatives to serve as chair or co-chair of the committee.
  • Generally, a parent who is an employee of the school or who is a spouse, son, daughter, sister, brother, mother or father of a person who is an employee of the school is not eligible to serve on the school accountability committee. However, if, after making good-faith efforts, a principal or organization of parents, teachers and students is unable to find a sufficient number of persons who are willing to serve on the SAC, the principal, with advice from the organization of parents, teachers and students, may establish an alternative membership plan for the SAC that reflects the membership specified above as much as possible.

How often do Parent Partnerships meet?

The West Woods Parent Partnership meets every month. Accountability committees are required to conduct a minimum of 4 meetings, at least one each quarter, per year. Local school accountability committee members must attend 50% or more of the regular scheduled meetings each year.

Parent Partnership meetings are open to all members of the community.
